Next-gen Led Walls: how to leverage them in your exhibition stand

In recent years, LED technology has rapidly expanded—not just in terms of lighting and energy efficiency, but also in multimedia applications. It enables the creation of high-quality, high-impact visual solutions for conveying messages and communications with exceptional effectiveness.

We harness this potential through the use of LED walls, offering cutting-edge multimedia installations that truly make a difference in the trade show industry by creating powerful, visually stunning light walls.

A few years ago, LED walls were accessible only to a select few—stadiums, shopping malls, and casinos seemed to be the only places where these digital panels were seen. But as disruptive technology keeps advancing, LED walls are now used in a wide range of sectors, including ours: exhibition design.

Key Considerations

Before planning a large-scale LED wall installation, it's important to understand the technology and the requirements needed to support it. Key factors to consider include:

·       Location (indoor or outdoor)

·       Maintenance needs

·       Image quality

·       Choice between LCD and LED

·       Ease of implementation (available space)

What Are LED Walls?

LED walls are display surfaces composed of Direct View LED (DV LED) screens working together as one seamless display.

LED screens are extremely efficient, with each component generating and emitting its own light. They use light-emitting diode (LED) technology, which consists of tiny semiconductor light sources with two conductors.

Unlike other lighting technologies, LEDs produce their own light, making them long-lasting and highly durable. Unlike traditional lightbulbs, they don't have filaments that burn out or overheat; instead, they light up through the movement of electrons in a semiconductor material—this also determines the color of the light.

Unlike traditional light walls where images are backlit, LEDs emit light directly, creating brighter, more vivid displays.

Pixel Construction

As LED technology continues to evolve, pixel density is improving rapidly—widening the performance gap between LED and LCD displays.

One unique feature of LED walls is their ability to produce true black. This is achieved by coating each LED with black epoxy resin, which reduces light bleed between pixels and eliminates reflectance, ensuring deep contrast and visual clarity.

Mounting & Viewing Distance

LED walls are made up of numerous small LED modules mounted on a flat panel. When installing an LED wall at a trade show, it's essential to consider the average viewing distance.

Pixel count determines the resolution. The closer viewers will be to the screen, the higher the pixel density must be.

In an LED wall, one pixel typically consists of an SMD (surface-mounted device), and its density is defined by the pixel pitch—the distance (in mm) between individual LED clusters.

Advantages of LED Technology

Not long ago, LED displays were not a practical option for most companies exhibiting at trade shows. Today, they’re quickly becoming the preferred alternative to LCD screens thanks to their versatility and visual performance.

Key benefits of LED walls include:

·       Superior brightness

·       Outstanding reliability

·       Energy efficiency and extended lifespan

·       Industry-leading refresh rates

·       Simple installation

·       Unmatched uniformity

·       Wide viewing angles

·       Customizable in any size or shape, beyond standard 16:9 formats

·       Ability to deliver true black, thanks to epoxy-coated LEDs

LED is an extremely effective solution for high-impact visuals, especially in trade show environments.

The image is sharp, integration is flexible, and the hardware is more accessible than ever.

Over the past decade, this technology has made massive strides, and if it continues to develop at the same pace, LED displays will dominate the digital signage market.

Traditional lighting for video walls faces significant downsides: high energy costs, frequent maintenance, and uneven illumination. LED technology overcomes them all.
